Globetrotting photographer Zion Ozeri will travel to Denver in November to serve as a Mizel Museum Artist-in-Residence. The museum will host three events designed to allow the community to engage with Ozeri and learn about his life and 30 years of work photographing Jewish people all over the world. Ozeri’s photography explores the Jewish experience. In his photographs, Ozeri encounters Jewish communities scattered across the world and in them he finds a sense of home, familiar customs and shared experiences.

Events include:
Salon Night: In Photos – Contemporary Jewish Migration Causes & Effects
Thursday, November 8, 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Mizel Museum
The museum’s permanent exhibition, 4,000 Year Road Trip: Gathering Sparks, features the photography of Israeli artist Zion Ozeri. For this special salon night, Ozeri will experience the museum galleries for the first time. He’ll discuss the themes his photography so organically describes—migration, immigration and the contemporary Jewish diaspora—through a close look at his stunning portrait photographs from Yemen, Uzbekistan, the former Soviet Union and Latin America. Light refreshments and beverages will be paired with the program. Cost: $12 members; $16 non-members
The Art of Shabbat: In Photos – Abraham Responds
Friday, November 9, 4:15-6:30pm
For this very unique community Shabbat dinner, Ozeri will thoughtfully consider the week’s Torah portion, in which Abraham responds to various requests and challenges asked of him. Ozeri will select photographs from his collection that coincide with this Torah portion, illuminating words that on any other Shabbat are simply read. Candle lighting and a vegetarian Shabbat dinner are included; don’t miss this lively and multi-faceted evening. Cost: $28 members; $32 non-members
Gathering Sparks: Mixed Media Performance and Holiday Art Market
Sunday, November 11, 2012, 1:00 to 6:00 pm
At Congregation Rodef Shalom, 450 S. Kearney St., Denver
This special event celebrates the light of the winter season through visual art and music, featuring a mixed media performance by world-renowned photographer Zion Ozeri and contemporary Jewish musician Rabbi Joe Black. The performance will be preceded by a Holiday Art Market featuring art for sale by Mizel Museum member artists. Snacks and refreshments will be served. Cost: $18
