International Artist-in-Residence Opportunity in Quezon City, Philippines

Ang Bahay ng Sining is an international artist-in-residence program in Quezon City Philippines.

The main objective of Ang Bahay ng Sining is to increase community awareness pertaining to the different mediums in the field of visual arts, music and other artistic crafts which aims to establish Quezon City as the premier arts, culture, music and design hub in Metro Manila. It is an art house for artists who would like to create an art project in collaboration with the local people.

Location: Ang Bahay ng Sining is located within a commercial road in the center of the vibrant city of Quezon City.

Outcome: A final exhibition of works will be presented at the end of the residency program wherein the artists would be showcasing their public artworks to the general public at the Bario Obrero Street Art Festival. Artists may also have the opportunity to facilitate outreach programs such as talks, workshops and exhibitions, intended to promote interaction and professional development within the community.

Duration: The artist-in-residence program will invite artists to stay every month of each year except on December.

Paid by artist:
The artist would have to pay for their own travel expenses, health insurance, materials, food and personal needs. The residency’s accommodation costs $250 a month which covers wi-fi internet, technical and administrative support and utility expenses. Paid by host:
Ang Bahay ng Sining would be offering technical and administrative help, assistance in projects involving wood and metal and electrical; we offer low-prices for photographic prints, canvasses, painting materials and in framing artworks; and promotion of the artist’s and their projects. We will also be giving a free service to and from the airport.

Application Guidelines and Criteria:
Artists must be active in the field of contemporary art with an interest in exploration and production of collaborative work during the residency period.

The Bahay ng Sining is geared towards emerging artists to mid-career and established artists who wish to develop their projects or create new ones within the urban halls of Quezon City. It is expected that the artists will be active in engaging with the dynamic environment of the city and use the opportunity to help inspire and contribute to the growth of the local Art scene.

Interested artists may send an electronic application, consisting of the following:

•Project Proposal including the Parallel Activity to be created at the residence (max. 2 A4 pages containing sketches, images or diagrams of the project)

•CV with photo and short Artist Statement (max 2 pages)

•Portfolio (up to 15 images, preferred format: PDF, JPG)

The artists will be working independently, but in communication with the Project manager, Curator and Coordinator of Ang Bahay ng Sining residency program.

Please note: Applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered. The application materials should not exceed 10mb in total.

Reminder: The Parallel Activities include but are not limited to the following: a workshop for local art teachers, a work-in-progress showing, and a meal by the artist preferably a national or famous dish from the artist’s home country or even a musical /other creative performance by the artiste which will be performed at the residence.

Decisions: Selected artists shall be notified via email upon a careful examination and evaluation of all the applications. Certificates of Completion will be awarded to the Artist upon completion of the program.

Deadline: April 10, 2012

Selected applicants will be notified on April 15. Residence starts on April 25.
